Here's the text on the research alert: Monday January 5, 9:49 am Eastern Time RESEARCH ALERT - Netscape lowered NEW YORK, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Discover said its analyst Mary Meeker lowered her rating on Netscape Communications Corp to outperform from strong buy. -- The preliminary operating earnings estimate for 1997 went to $0.04 per share from $0.45, and for 1998 to $0.06 from $0.90. -- Netscape said on Monday that it will miss fourth-quarter earnings and revenue forecasts. -- Morgan in a research note said that Meeker likes Netscape's assets and market opportunity but adds that she considers this is a high-risk, high-reward investment. I'll also post the first call summary, which has a 1998 estimate of .14 as the mean, (average) and .08 as the median, (middle). LF
