It seems logical (beam me up Scotty), that WebTV will gain in popularity as the internet continues to gain momentum. The system is getting much more useful and entertaining and the internet is becoming more of an "appliance" that consumers feel compelled to have, if not for themselves, for their children. Even at $800, PCs are more than many consumers want or need or are willing to fool with. Option - a $100 to $300 WebTV that's pretty brainless to hook up and start using. With MS backing, WebTV will almost certainly continue to improve in software and media offerings at a rapid pace. Microsoft doesn't much care if they make any money on their $450 million investment as long as they lay the groundwork for hooking millions of consumers into their e-commerce web. E-commerce will be where the real money is a few years down the road - giving the black boxes away to get advertising dollars and a small percentage transaction fee on the billions of e-commerce makes a lot of sense. That's where Mr. Bill's head is at.
