TP-
...the next day we would move on to Gallup.
at that time the highway between farmington and gallup was
designated US-666... "the devil's highway" or "highway to hell".
it could be why they filmed "natural born killers" on that stretch.

i was almost killed at least four times in the 60's on that two lane
blacktop. three times by ira hayes or his intoxicated buds pulling
into my lane trying to commit polviecide, and once by a herd of
black horses in both lanes just over a hill on a dark and stormy
knight in a blinding rain. it got so dangerous and scary that after
a few hundred trips i refused to drive it without at least a six pack
of falstaff for courage. if you can't beat 'em... toast to 'em. :-)
i owe my last 50 years of survival to -- falstaff "the thirst slaker".

they have since made the road much safer by adding two more
lanes (separated) and changing the highway number from 666
to US 491.
