Hi Z

"With only two major manufacturers each of notebook and high capacity drives, it is hard to call it a commodity, esp when IBM has such a large technological lead."

Sorry for the late reply, but I have been out of town all week.

The HDD a comodity or not?
This discussion was rampant a few months ago I recall. My point is that you take a 3 1/2 2,1gig drive with all the whistles and bells, be it from WD; SEG or QNTM, and you can buy a drop in equivalent from Maxtor at $199. Now all the whistles and bells become selling features, but the price has got to be $199,-
That is my definition of a comodity.

I read an article in the Financial Times this week that said that the IMF is dissatisfied with the lack of some Korean companies efforts to clean up their problems. Highlighted was Hyundai, who should "sell off their loss making interests in the electronics fields" I wish....
