sc, check out Fidelity's Spartan Brokerage. Haven't used it yet, but have their software now and plan to try the service. Option commisions are better than at E*Trade and you supposedly can do spreads online while E*Trade makes you call in to do spreads. Note, however, that Fidelity Web Express is more limited. As for naked writing, probably more a matter of trading authorization that online capabilities. Discover probably just doesn't like approving accounts for naked options.

SC, I've been using Dreyfus (nee PBS) for awhile, and overall am satisfied with their options procedures. One must of course, have the proper margin in the account to do naked options and spreads. Also, naked selling and spreads have to be done over the phone, but I have not had a problem along those lines.

i can get you a number of small boutique firm that i sometimes do business with..
you must remember this.. you need substantial equity to be able to make the "naked" or spread trades.. i don't think there is any broker worth his weight in salt that will let you do this without your submission of proof that you are aware of the risks involved..
{brokers don't want to lose or tarnish their licenses for a few hundred worth of commissions~ nor do they want a dk in a losing trade}
my friend was dk'd a trade once.. 10k shares of some stock{i forget which one} that fell 2 points.. the two days later it was up $5 and the broker ended up making $30k..
{and dropping his client, after a profuse thanks for the free 30k}
