WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- The U.S. government, heeding projections by economists that a computer bug could bring on a full-scale recession at the turn of the century, is responding to calls by politicians to require corporations to warn investors about Year 2000 risks.
This week, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a non-binding guidance telling publicly traded corporations that any significant Year 2000 liabilities should be disclosed to the public.
