RE <<It’s 1999 again. With 2000 around the corner...>>

I hope you are correct, that we are lucky, and 1999 / 2000 is all that there is to it, so that we can count blessings a few days or weeks later.

pater H pointed out some parallels with another time, a more distant time, the good old days and wonderful nights ended with

around the time my grandpa moved to the peninsula hotel for the better afternoon tea service - he had the advantage of an endlessly flowing oil field in trinidad, and that his mom's family had the crown concession to mint money for the local english-speaking Caribbean, and obtained crown dispensation to carry out money xfer function on trinidad - rebellions cost a lot of pounds, and ultimately takes all-in, for the greater good

Bankers trying to stem stock market crash? What does that remind us of?

1. Bankers step in, conditions are deemed sound (references trading on Oct. 24 1929)
2. Referencing trading on October 28 - a wipeout. DJIA down almost 13%, biggest one day loss in history at that point.
3. Some look at October 28 and still think that "bankers stem stock market crash" -not sure which planet these guys were on
4. Others note that "bank aid failed" on October 29.
5. On October 29, the market slumped another 11.5% - but bankers "optimistic, will continue aid".
