Angelo,
Your assessment re: ORBI is very compelling. I was first drawn to this stock after reading a piece in the most recent individual investor (of course the stock was 23 ish when the article was written) and since I have a subscription I was one of the first readers, but the stock was already at 31-32 range (last week). So, I have about 5k to invest from a recent sale (WLA) and have been looking very closely at ORBI. Question....since I have not Invested in ORBI yet, is it prudent to wait the month to see how the launches go or just anti up now. I mean, like what are the odds that the 2 launches fail??? Lets face it. if the price of the stock was in the 20's verses the 30's I'd be in already with out a doubt. Also maybe prudent to wait after this upcoming earnings are out since you say they aleady warned about this qtr.
Thanks for your perspective....You seem most knowledgeable.
Mike

In light of current conditions, do you hold to your earlier predictions of $100 in '98 and $200 in '00?

100 mil (5%-5 yr) notes and possible dilution in 1998.

Angelo, I looked up the news on the 100 mil 5% convertible subordinated notes.I understand it is due in Oct 2002,and is non- callable for 3 years, and further they are convertible at the option of $28.00 per share.

It looks like Orbi has used a portion of the sale to pay down outstanding borrowing under its various lines of credit, possibly costing them more than 5% in interest. 10 mil, they used to pay off a long term loan, and the balance is invested in short term instruments, giving us an indication possibly that they intend to deploy this amount to either pay down some of the loans or possibly use to for acquisition and or capital spending. At the end of Sept the short term investments stood at some 39 mil. Long term loans were approx 206 mil of which 100 mil represents this particular note.

If the options on the note is exercised by the holders at $28.00 share, the possible dilution i think would be approx 10%. I do not know the earliest possible date when the note holders can exercise their option as there was no mention of it in the 10Q report I read, either that or I missed it.

So Angelo my question is why do you say that there is a possibility of earnings dilution in Q4 97? Do you think some of the note holders have already exercised their option in Q4? I am anxious to know your reasoning.

Angelo,
I am new to this thread...but not to distant from ORBI.My sister and brother in law both work at VAFB launch site. I can get VERY accuraate info on launches.I was there when XMAS launch went off.Knew it was successful right away since my B-in-law called my sister to tell her.My B-in-law said"I think this will be good for the stock"...I should have listened!I forgot all about it until I came across this thread by accident...Oh well, not to late I hope.Go dip!
It would be nice to have some puts if one of those rockets tanked...You might want to think about some protection when they are launching.I grew up at VAFB and i can tell you, they do go down from time to time...
Dave

ps.I am going to read this entire thread.
