Section-1.) Proof of identity, such as an original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, employment authorization, permanent resident card or unexpired foreign passport with valid U.S. visa and approved I-94 form. No photocopies will be accepted. Section-2.) Proof of Social Security number, such as an SSN card, W-2 or paystub with full SSN. Original or certified copies are required. No photocopies will be accepted. Section-3.) California residency document, such as a utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage or medical document. Photocopies accepted. . Federal law requires two types of Section-3 residency proof, but Homeland Security accepted mailing the Real-ID license to your home address as the secondary Section-3 evidence that you actually reside in California. Donald Trump has now informed California that we will all need to return to the DMV office with two recent Section-3 documents and have our Driver's Licenses re-issued. I'm sure our nation will be much much safer after providing photocopies of two utility bills, rather than one . What an ass. Since Homeland Security accepts photocopies or scans of Section-3 documents, California is trying to negotiate with the Trump administration to accept a method where California residents like myself can provide these two utility bills online to the DMV without costing every resident additional hours in lines to keep up with the Trump administration's fickle and ever changing requirements. Secure Federal IDs like Global-Entry and Passports are not acceptable IDs for Section-3 identification because they do not contain your address of residence. Driver's Licenses are not Proof of Residence as they would be "self-referential " proof that you reside in California. Not even a Deed of ownership to your home is adequate proof that you live there, but ironically a Property Tax bill is, as is a monthly mortgage statement if you are wisely in debt to prove your existence.
