So what? McChrystal is correct and we all knew that going in. What's happening right now with Mattis and McChrystal, as much as I admire them both, is that they want the forever war in the Middle East to continue. Most Americans do not. We see that there is no advantage to squandering American wealth on a people who will never like us for objectives that do not benefit Americans, and in such a way that we create for more terrorists than friends on the other side of the world. It doesn't even make economic sense anymore, because we don't need the oil.

So Mattis and McChrystal are critical of Trump now because he wants to pull out of Syria and Afghanistan. This is the the stuff of the deep state. The military has no reason for existence except to fight wars. That is why in their wisdom, our founders put the military under civilian control. Eisenhower warned of the Military Industrial Complex. So are you now surprised that the MIC is rearing its ugly head?

McChrystal, in particular, is an honorable man, but he is a military man first and foremost. Don't get bought into this idea that we need to continue spending $1 trillion a year to fight everyone around the world. It is a lie that is truly anti-American. We should be all about peace, yes, even with our enemies. War should be the last resort, but somehow the machismo of the US has made it so that it is our first and only resort. Trump would like to try to reverse that. He's right to try, but he'll fail like every President before him, including Obama who got elected on his promises to get us out of the Middle East, but ended up doubling down.
