I agree with what you posted, including the threat from a fascist right, but what Fukuyama failed to see is that the Socialist liberal left is alive and well. What we are seeing is classic reaction politics. We have the right wing, nationalist strongman in Trump, who is using people's worst instincts to gain and keep his following. I agree with that assessment. However, Fukuyama says, "The anti-capitalist Left, however, was a busted flush." Nothing could be further from the truth. The Socialist left is going to use Trump as a springboard to gain unprecedented levels of power in the coming years. They may very well have enough power to destroy everything we hold dear in this country including Freedom of Speech and expression, online freedoms, and other Constitutional rights we've enjoyed for 200+ years. My best guess, and I have well worn family experience in this, is that we are well on our way to a Cuban or Venezuelan style Socialist tyranny in this country. The Socialists in this country say they want the Nordic dream, but they will overshoot. In Denmark or Norway, you don't have mob mentality and violence against elected officials, except by the Muslim immigrants. In fact, to the extent the Nordic countries have economic success is exactly correlated to how extensive their practice and protection of capitalist enterprises has been. Here in the US, the liberals are engaged in a full on coup that include censorship, violence, and FBI/DOJ lead prosecutions intended to disrupt the elected will of the people. I think there is a better than 50% chance of an impeachment in the House in 2019, unless Pelosi prevents it. In fact, Pelosi is the only person standing between Trump and impeachment. We have mob rule and the Socialists have openly advocated for Venezuelan Socialism...see Bernie's praise of Venezuela.

So I know your post was intended to say that Fukuyama predicted Trump. True. But Fukuyama did not predict that Trump would only ever be a catalyst for what comes next...the tyranny of the Socialist left extremists in this country. That is my prediction. We're only 2 years away from that. I think it would be a miracle if Trump gets re-elected. Most likely, he does not. He's alienated the moderates and many Republicans. He has even managed to alienate some of his core in fly-over America. So the Socialists will have their way with the US and it will look one hell of a lot like the rape committed by Chavez and Maduro. All the liberals will be ecstatic for the first few years and then even they will look around and ask themselves, "what manner of hell have we unleashed on ourselves?" By then, it will be too late.
