Heavy snowfalls have left large areas of the Austrian and Bavarian Alps paralysed, with more than 2,000 people trapped in villages and ski resorts cut off from the outside world. Five people have been killed, and another two are missing. The entire Austrian ski resort of Hochkars was evacuated on Monday amid fears of avalanches. “We have to bring everyone down from the mountain, both guests and staff. As far as I know, this has never happened in the history of Hochkars, but we can not guarantee medical care at the moment,” Friedrich Fahrnberger, the resort’s mayor, told local NÖN news. This winter will keep in remembrance a long time from the most bavarian folks! I was grow up in the near of Bad Reichenhall, but now I live a a little further away. Since i can think, I´ve not seen a winter like that. Wven the older generation has rarely experienced anything comparable. Many villages are complete cut off from the outside world. At many roads avalanches disposals block the way. Rooftops must be freed from the extreme snow loads, because otherwise they will break up. We had freed up our rooftop too, because the roof would not have been able to carry the load anymore. I know extreme surroundings, but this situation is for me too a unequaled exception. A very deep trough with intense cyclone will bring significant winter and also severe weather into south-central Europe next week, Jan 21-26th severe-weather.eu
