[Odds and ends] Hi Mark, Noticed some odds and ends going thru info related to the new orctf/fujitsu adsl silicon... First, had remembered that fujitsu network products division (npd) was going to be a customer for the chip, but it didn't sink in til this last pass that npd had a focus for worldwide markets (seems to imply stuff beyond n. america)... the eetimes version reads: "...Fujitsu's network products division is expected to be a primary customer for the chip..."techweb.com the description of fujitsu at the bottom of the orctf version notes: "...Advanced ATM products for world-wide markets are developed at Fujitsu's European Network Products Division (NPD)..."orckit.com A second curious item comes from a sept electronics buyers news article, orckit is not mentioned, but seems like it is the orctf/fujitsu chip being discussed... tone seems to imply that someone besides fujitsu is interested... the article is about fujitsu's licensing the oakdspcore... (which was announced shortly after the announcement of orckit's implimenting adsl on the core... which turned out to be used in orckit's current silicon (the core).. and therefore seems likely that the new chip, the design of which was underway at the time, will use this same core... or something like that) "..Meanwhile, Fujitsu is already building a chip around the OakDSPCore for an undisclosed European customer, said Bami Bastani, executive vice president of FMI's System LSI group...."techweb.com On another note... do you suppose that the use of an onu for xdsl would be a way of sidestepping unbundling requirements? and any thoughts on component count/status for the ti adsl solution? s
