Update-2
Re Vista and MSSE

I'll just throw this data out there for history.

I have two Windows Vista machines, one was running Microsoft Security Essentials just fine and autoupdate, the other would install and then proceed to tell you it won't work because your using Vista that isn't supported anymore.

On the Vista box that wouldn't run the latest MSSE download 4.10.209 (Even though Microsoft download website says for Win7 and Vista), I found an old 4.4.304 version I had downloaded a few years ago. I installed it, works fine, autoupdates, all is good.

To duplicate this quirk, I went to the Vista machine that was running MSSE just fine (Ver 4.0.1526.0), I downloaded and installed the latest 4.10.209 from Microsoft's website. Boom, didn't work, got the usual warning your system isn't supported anymore.

I installed the 4.4.304 I had and everything is back to working, autoupdates just fine. (I didn't have a 4.0.1526.0 to use)

And of course the usual disclaimer of I have no idea what I'm doing during this wag, and ymmv....
