Security guarantees to others must be made for good reason other than to tweak the nose of big boy adversaries.

A prime example is pre-WWII Brit guarantees to Poland to tweak Hitler, leading to a war the Brits were not prepared to fight. Another is the US totally unprepared to fight in Korea.

Team USA must reexamine its involvement in areas such as Taiwan, Ukraine, Syria (the Kurds), Iraq, NATO, etc. to ensure that the neocons don't drag us into a hot war just because they love to tweak the nose of Russia and China.

If we are not willing to engage in war to protect our "friends", then perhaps we need to reduce the number of friends we have.
