Winter Storm Gia: 9 Dead, Thousands Without Power, Roads Closed

More than 150,000 customers in North Carolina and Virginia woke up to no electricity Sunday as Winter Storm Gia shoved into the mid-Atlantic states.
In the nation's capital, 3 to 6 inches of snow fell overnight and more was expected. At the three major airports serving the area, Reagan National, Dulles and Baltimore, 445 flights had been canceled by 11 a.m. Sunday, according to FlightAware.com. Overall, 598 flights into and out of the United States were canceled Sunday. That's in addition to 764 cancellations on Friday and Saturday.

The storm, which left hundreds of motorists stranded on Missouri roads and caused scores of crashes, is blamed in the deaths of at least nine people, including an Illinois state trooper.
