No worries Arun. New Zealand is largely "owned" by foreign companies but it doesn't matter. They can only spend NZ$ in NZ, or sell them to somebody who will, so the fear of colonisation is largely false. I don't care if I'm "colonized" as long as I'm paid enough. The foreign companies have to get customers so it's not as though anyone is a prisoner of them.

The idea of being independent is bung thinking. It's true that Made Locally is better, but not at any price. For a start, I don't like to economically support evil-doers who make things cheaply by way of slavery or operate evil political systems. While nowhere is perfect, there's a long continuum from terrible to pretty good. It's nicer to deal with places who manifest Virtuous Victorian Values most prolifically.

I'm not scared of foreigners = not the good ones anyway.
BTW, it's the USA colonizing other countries as you describe, rather than the reverse. Caltex and Mobil own lots in NZ for example. Google and Microsoft make heaps.
