Miss Penni, I hope you know I wasn't complaining or anything about your keeping Blue outside--I was just razzing Alex!!

Of course, when you have acres around your palatial estate you should keep your kitty outside!!! I always put bells on mine when I lived on the beach, so that birds had some warning, but I watched them actually practicing their new stealthful walks when I did that--learning to prowl silently--so apparently the effects are limited. Definitely, cats LONG to be outside, but only a very large, private roaming area is safe enough.

Yesterday I read a pet column where the owner of a very old cat was writing out of concern because her pet had stopped presenting her with mangled, dying birds and other small animals, and instead started proudly bringing back leaves to give her instead. Very poignant!!! Perhaps someday Blue will um, graduate to vegetarian hunting as well!!!
