Jack, I understand your cynicism, but I believe that if enough people voice their outrage, it will work. I now that during the early days of Clinton's administration I sent him a number of missives, voicing my outrage at the slaughter of Muslims in Bosnia and the whole concept of "ethnic" cleansing, I also pointed out the danger of an "moslim/christian" conflagration arising from the presence of Iranian and Libyan volunteers in Bosnia. I am sure that ny voice was not particulalrly powerful (the Japanes are not listening to my advice either) but if enough people voice their concern, we might have the power. After all, we are voters.

Which is the better form: "self improvement" or "self-improvement"? I'm not quite clear on the rules for adding or omitting the hyphen. I see a lot of unhyphenated compound terms. It arouses my inner Knight of the Order of the Red Pencil, but I don't know if it should.
