I think it was the use of the word "biggest" that suggested mass market to me. I agree it's pretty hard to top IBM for bigness. Perhaps it's "biggest" in terms of impact on people's lives. (GE? -- a javachip in every appliance?)

I wonder whether the federal government could become a "partner" without putting it out to bid or something.

Eric suggests it could be in the banking area, and I certainly can't rule that out.

One other aspect that might deserve thought is the possibility that it's a more international connection, and hence one the typical American might overlook. That's what made me think of, e.g., Sony.

Anyway, we'll know soon enough.
