Trump leaves egg on media faces again with surprise visit to MLK memorial

President Donald Trump left his liberal critics with egg on their faces without even saying a word.

After tripping over themselves to slam the president for not celebrating Martin Luther King Day, the left-wing media was served a heaping bowl of crow when Trump made an unannounced visit to the MLK Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

Though his schedule had no plans listed for the holiday, Trump and Vice President Mike Pence made a surprise visit to place a wreath at the memorial honoring the slain civil rights leader Monday morning, following baseless attacks from the left for not commemorating the holiday.

The shameful finger-pointing came ahead of the federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., with many blasting the president in tweets that obviously didn’t age well.

No public events tomorrow for Trump on MLK day, per WH schedule

Trump celebrating MLK Jr Day by doing nothing.

He still hasn’t address comments about white supremacy by Steve King, one of his strongest allies in Congress. t.co

NEW: @realDonaldTrump won’t be participating in any Martin Luther King Jr. Day service activities tomorrow. According to the White House schedule, he “has no public events scheduled.”

Trump and Pence have zero plans to honor MLK Day t.co

— Oliver Willis (@owillis) January 21, 2019

“Trump and Pence are rejecting a chance to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. after President Obama embraced his legacy,” Shareblue’s Oliver Willis wrote, as others also turned to past presidents in order to shame Trump. “Trump chose not to honor King and it speaks volumes about the values he embodies and the mindset he operates with.”

Surprise! Trump has nothing on his calendar tomorrow.

Don’t know about this year, but in past years:
Clinton helped restore a senior center,
W volunteered at schools & went to other events,
Obama’s volunteered at a soup kitchen,
Trump played golf.
Carter celebrates the legacy of MLK every day.

“Donald Trump Doesn’t Have Any MLK Day Activities Planned,” read the headline from Vibe, which followed simply with “Shocker.”

With Monday showing still no announced plans for the president, the left continued to smear him as he tweeted out a message to the nation.

Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for standing up for the self-evident truth Americans hold so dear, that no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by God. #MLKDay t.co

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 21, 2019

Maybe Trump’s secret schedule for today has him going to church to pray to the memory of MLK; my secret schedule for today has me flying to Mars and back. t.co

— Elizabeth Drew (@ElizabethDrewOH) January 21, 2019

It’s MLK day, he’ll spend the day praying about non-violence and unity. Just kidding.

The Rev. Al Sharpton slammed Trump at a National Action Network breakfast that was honoring King.

“There is no official event at the White House to celebrate Martin Luther King Day,” Sharpton said, according to The New York Post. “This is an insult to the American people that the president of the United States does not officially recognize or give any ceremony for Dr. King.”

Not surprisingly, the president turned the media’s narrative on its head as he arrived at the MLK Memorial Monday, laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence.

Similar to Trump’s Christmas holiday visit to the troops in Iraq with first lady Melania Trump which made his critics look bad, Monday’s surprise move earned the media plenty of mockery.

Again the bloggers get it wrong…?????????

?????? This hasn’t aged well. You might want to reconsider what you’ve said and correct or just remove.

It’s hilarious how wrong you liberals can be. Jumped the gun did we?

— Randy Johnson (@randyaj17) January 22, 2019

I just love it when he keeps you guys guessing. He’s always two steps ahead of you……..celebrate!

How many times c the left be wrong?
WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 21: President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on January 21, 2019 in Washington, DC. They placed a wreath to commemorate the slain civil rights leader.

“Journalist” gets it wrong again. Maybe you should try reporting known facts rather than your “wishful thinking” reporting.

— Ronda (@MomOfTwins112) January 21, 2019

Willis updated his Shareblue piece to say that Trump made the surprise visit which was never announced, adding “it isn’t clear when exactly the White House decided on the need for some sort of gesture to honor MLK after all.”

Never mind that the president’s schedule is not always shared ahead for security reasons.

Wrong. They dont openly say where the president or vp will be for security reasons. Educate yourself.

— Chris Ellison (@Clellisx) January 21, 2019

Always assume the worst Mr. Willis? Shame on Pres. Trump for not sharing his plans with you! Your TDS blinds you.

— Rich Olon (@OlonRich) January 21, 2019

Well. wrong weren’t you. Not all of the president’s public schedule is published for security reasons But you assumed.

— Jeff Dunetz (@yidwithlid) January 21, 2019

With no apologies issued, the critics then blasted the president for not spending enough time at the memorial.

Per the pool reporter, here’s what Trump said during a visit of “approximately two minutes” to the MLK memorial in Washington: “Good morning, everybody. Great day. Beautiful day. Thank you for being here. Appreciate it.”

— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) January 21, 2019

Trump and Pence spent approximately two minutes at the MLK Memorial this morning before returning to the White House, per pooler @fran_chambers.

— Rebecca Ballhaus (@rebeccaballhaus) January 21, 2019

And Sharpton could not admit he was wrong either, doubling down on his insults of the president who did a “drive-by” visit.

“I don’t believe honestly intended to do anything for Dr. King’s birthday… Why wouldn’t it have been on the schedule if they intended to do it? You don’t just decide you’re going to… sneak by Dr. King’s memorial.” – @TheRevAl w/ @NicolleDWallace pic.twitter.com/D21tZrghYE

— Deadline White House (@DeadlineWH) January 21, 2019

“I honestly don’t believe intended to do anything for Dr. King’s birthday,” he told MSNBC.

“Who goes to a memorial in secret? Why wouldn’t it have been on the schedule if they intended to do it?” Sharpton said. “You don’t just decide, ‘I’m going to privately get the Vice President to sneak by Dr. King’s memorial to surprise — surprise who? The monuments?”

Later in a speech, Sharpton slammed the president as “insensitive” and suggested the visit to the memorial was a result of criticism.

“After we attacked him, he went by a drive by of the King Memorial, a 90-second stop, which is an epitome of an insult,” Sharpton said. “We don’t want a drive by, Mr. president. We want government open and, in honor of Dr. King, you should address the government workers, that he died fighting for sanitation workers in Memphis. If you really were sincere, you would talk to some of the workers that you have furloughed and delayed pay.”
