To all on thread,

Yesterday Cohu was downgraded by Stifel from buy to hold.

This collapsed Cohu's price all day.

This is classic price manipulation.

I have no doubt that a brokerage firm, the market maker, or an individual with a lot of shares will throw 10's of thousands of shares "at the market" to cascade the price of a stock down - (43,978 shares were sold in the the time pointed out by the red arrow at the open).

Then for the rest of the day Cohu sold off sideways at that depressed price level. This is accomplished by the market maker or some individual who wants to acquire back his sold shares (that created the cascading down of pricee) back at the lowest possible price. I suspect it is the market maker who does this and then at the last minute sells the shares back to either his inventory account or some individual institution that has prearranged an order of the size that it is not necessary for the exchange to show (over 10,000 shares)

Interesting that at the last minute of the the trade day at exactly 3:00 a block of 30530, shares traded. at a higher price from minutes before @ 16.17.

I have no doubt that this is legal supply and demand working on the price of a stock. It IS price manipulation and either someone is working on a confidential basis or it is the market maker wanting to build inventory.

TDA says Cohu is scheduled to announce their first quarterly earnings report with a full quarter of ownership of Xcerra on February 24th.

Cohu's investor presentation in January with Needham indicated that Xcerra should be immediately accretive in Q4 by 34% !!!!

Why would a brokerage house drop it's rating? To depress price and buy shares and then resell them to their clients after they upgrade their rating - no surely they would not make a profit off of their client base.

Hey if you can't make a profit off of your customer - who can you make a profit off of?

Welcome to the larceny of Wall Street.

As an investor - we must do our homework and know what we know.

If cohu increases their earnings by 34 % with the acquisition of Xcerra then last Q they earned 30 cents - then if that 34% is applied to the previous quarter Of 30 cents, then we should expect earnings of 40 cents plus. That would not be a big bump up in earnings as last quarter was a weak earnings quarter imo.

This year Cohu is estimated to make $1.47 and next year $1.68 - a 34 % increase on those numbers would be $1.97 for this year and $2.42 for next year!!

Yup, buying Cohu in the 16 (pe of 6.6!) is an attractive buy.

Now we can have sour grapes on price drops or we can ride on the tails of the guy with all the money doing all the work. Just a note he doesn't like to share so if you see a low price just buy it at the market in small lots and sneak in a great buy while paying a couple of extra 5-7 dollar commissions.

Buy the dip folks - buy the dip.

By all means do your own Due Diligence - but these are just my opinions!!!
