Great explanation. Thanks. I was under the obviously mistaken impression that the cookies permission was granted to the website seeking it and used by that site only, not that it granted info sharing "across the web". I should have known that that was the underlying reason for Mr. Google or Company A to know that I had visited Company B's site and what I had looked at. So great explanation, but not such great news :o)

Today is my first day of accessing SI since your no-notice Privacy ultimatum showed up. The Privacy Statement sounded as if my Privacy was so important to SI that it was going to be taken from me totally and absolutely. I'm still learning how to use my new Win 10 laptop which will be dedicated to the SI website. There'll be no searches, browsing or other web usage from this device. I was ready to leave SI rather than submit to a no choice take it or leave it ultimatum. The compromise is to let SI track how I use this website and nothing else. Perhaps a 10 day "Not Now" countdown would have allowed all to better understand what was happening and how to deal with it. FWIW Ian
