Janet,

Yes, I am really 22 . . . and some months. <vvvbg>

I happened to have some cinnamon sticks in my spice rack and am chewing on one even as we "speak." Not bad, I must say.

I am relieved to see you state one of the biggest hazards in using the nicotine patches. I tried the patches on two occasions, several years apart, and both times developed frightening cardiac symptoms. Even after removing the patch, the symptoms continued because the nicotine was still in my system. On both occasions, I had not smoked a cigarette for over 24 hours. I am aware also of other lesser known side-effects one can experience with use of the patches. That is why I think nicotine patches should not be sold over the counter and should have remained a prescription item. No one seems to take seriouisly the warnings on over-the-counter drugs.

I much prefer the gum, largely because one is able to control the dosage and time of release of nicotine. One has no such control when using the nicotine patches, and nicotine toxicity is a real threat.

I probably shouldn't say this in a public forum and I am by no means recommending this to anyone, but I had the best results of all by sucking the nicotine patches. One 21 mg patch kept me content all day, with no adverse symptoms, and a patch resting inconspicuously in ones mouth is esthetically preferable to chewing gum.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Thanks for the lesson in the different types of lung cancer.
