re in-bound FDI to China, I was always under impression that much came from overseas Chinese diaspora in the earlier years (1982 - 1992) @ maybe 80% down to 50%, and later years joined by mainland China companies round-tripping overseas earnings below is an indication, that the stuff flowing from and through HK are of Diaspora and round-trip mostly stuff flowing from Asia is Japan, Korea, Taiwan (a renegade province), and SE Asia (overseas Chinese mostly in this case) team USA simply had not invested much in China, albeit what was invested have high profile given nature of source arno.uvt.nl
