I really don't have an answer to your question, but off hand I think that it may be other components of tobacco that are said to cause skin or soft tissue cancers. One difference is that one is not taking smoke into ones lungs. In any event, nicotine (a stimulant) in any form directly affects the cardiovascular system. For what it's worth, I think smoke in any form can be harmful.

My main complaint is that too much attention is being focused on smoking tobacco and not enough on other environmental and just pain other hazards to good health.

However, physicians are now just beginning to ask their patients if they have exposure to loud noise. Now there's one I can really get behind and cheer!

BTW, I've been meaning to try to see my way clear to join you good people on the "Grammar" thread. Nobody's yet mentioned MY pet grammar peeves. That really surprises me.
