What do you think Robert Mueller thinks of his longtime friend William Barr possibly becoming Attorney General?

{ I think Trump is so stupid a close friend of Bob Mueller duped him into hiring him as Attorney General. I think Barr convinced Trump he's protect him and be willing to go to prison for him, but will betray him by doing his job. ]

Fascinating question!

Not only are Mueller and Barr “good friends”, their wives are very close. It would therefore be very odd if Barr is taking this job simply to carry out Trump’s order to fire Mueller.

Moreover Barr testified to Congress that he would not fire the Special Counsel without good reason.

Which, according to an article in tomorrow’s NYT, infuriated Trump — leading him to ask whether he can rescind the nomination.

Unless Trump and Barr have worked out an off-Broadway show, it appears that Barr intends to play this with what the Brits call “a straight bat.” If that’s the case, Mueller has nothing to worry about.

Of course, earlier Barr voluntarily wrote a letter in which he said things about the investigation that was music to Trump’s ears. It’s therefore possible that Trump thought he was buying a Roy Cohn, and instead got an Elliott Richardson. In that case, be prepared for Trump to dump on Barr, claiming the appointment was “rigged” to benefit Mueller.

Or it could be that Barr revealed his true feelings in the letter, and what we’re seeing now is a heavily lawyered feint to keep Bobby Three Sticks from seeing the knife before it enters his back.

Either way, lots of drama ahead!
