It is thought by some historians that Islam first came to the Malay penisula and Indon archipelago via Islamic Indians and only later from Arab traders. There are many Indian Muslims in Malaysia, evidenced in several very good Halal Indian restraunts. And the Sanskrit heritage is very much evident in place names and Bahasa language.
