The pursuit of ideological purity is a good way to destroy your party. That's how the R's got into their current bind.

Really?! I was unaware of any party movements to erase the past. Do tell! Are you going to disown the slave owners who claimed all men are equal too? Because the past goes on for a long long way down.

Every generation has their own morals. You can't view the past the through the lens of the present. Anything done during and before the 1999 party is off limits unless you can show it directly affects the future. If you have something of substance, bring in forth. But if all you got was how he dressed more than a generation ago...

For the record, I support Harris. But if I were to make a moral judgment between her past and dressing up for a party - she is far worse off. Luckily for her, I'm of the opinion that that past only matters so much as it directly affects the future, and from that perspective she is fine. But she has no business passing a moral judgment on how someone dressed 30 - 40 years ago.

And while we are at it, the Al Franken thing was very stupid too. Not only he should not have resigned, but the party should have never turned on him in the first place.
