I think eoddata may be a good solution to the slow downloading problem. You go to your eoddata account and download the exchanges you want downloaded (NYSE, AMEX, INDEX,OTCCB, NASDAQ, ...).

CMD-U brings up the Universal Downloader window, and you just drag the eoddata files from your Download folder to the Universal Downloader window, and the download proceeds automatically if you have not checked the box "Pause before importing each file". Downloads are a lot faster for me than from ProTA 4 Yahoo! or ProTA 4 Dial Data.

It's not a free lunch. You have to make sure the symbols in the eoddata download map into your ProTA database, but you also get more symbols than you get from Yahoo!. It also is expensive up to $450 a year depending on the options you select. I think that is cheaper than Dial Data.

It also is a backup in case Yahoo! acts up and stops providing quote file data, or if Yahoo! changes it's api and it takes a while before ProTA gets code updates.

Even if you stay with Yahoo! free downloads, its good to know that there is an alternate service.

Slow downloading is not a problem if you have only a few hundred quote files. I have 2200.
