That's because there is no defense. Everything in that post is true.

Gary,

Responding to your post last nite regarding the lack of price-cutting on IOM products. I have noticed the same situation in the Chicago area. The lowest advertised price for Zip has been $129, Zip+ at $199. Also the products have not been as prominently featured in ads as they were pre-XmaS. I really thought that by now the $99 Zip would be the "rule", but it appears that the pressure to lower prices is not significant at this time.

At this point in time the key to future success is to build the base for the Zip family of products. What the bears miss over and over again, it isn't necessarily about the best, fastest, largest capacity, etc. product. It even isn't about cheapest. For the average purchaser it is about what is perceived to be the standard, and right now that is Zip. And if the "base" gets big enough it will be Zip for a few more years. Both Sony and CPQ know this, that is why they are bundling Zips in their machines, even though they have competing products, because their customers want them and it sells!

Zip is it until someone takes it away from Iomega and that involves a lot more that just coming up with a newer (maybe better) product.
