I don't believe its a trading index, just a group of stocks Barrons put together, I'm not sure even what stocks are in it.

I was trying to get some info so I could relate it to an article that was posted here a while ago and I'm just getting around to reading now:

It suggests that the Gold Mine Index/POG ratio less than 1.20 indicates a great buying oportunity for gold mutual funds.The last figures I have for the index are around 8 Jan with the index @ 349.24. Dividing by the POG of around 280 we get a ratio of
about 1.25 - not too far from 1.20.
