David W. Rudlin , Novelist, corporate poo bah, foodaholic, political junkie. A couple of reasons. For starters, the A-list won’t work with him. They know he doesn’t read, doesn’t listen, and gets angry when the facts contradict his preconceptions. No one with any useful skills is going to sign on with a boss like that. The B-listers are increasingly hesitant to enlist. They now know they will be trashed on Twitter, by the guy they report to. They know they will either get fired or go mad. The only people willing to endure the abuse that comes with working for Trump are the… …bottom feeders, a.k.a. Matthew Whitaker. Betty DeVos. Ben Carson. Ryan Zinke. And so on and on. Also, Trump isn’t looking for smart people who will disagree with him. He wants, to use his words, “my Roy Cohn.” He wants an Attorney General to protect him from investigations into his crimes. He wants a lawyer to buy silence from porn stars. He wants a campaign manager who will work for free. And he wants a self-proclaimed “dirty trickster” willing to commit conspiracy with a foreign government. You don’t get quality people willing to do that sort of thing. Finally, Trump has to feel dominant in all his relationships. People like Mueller drive him crazy, because deep down he knows he’s not a fraction of the man that Bobby Three Sticks is. And that makes him feel bad when he looks in the mirror. But when he looks at Michael Cohen? He can tell himself he’s actually better than somebody. Trump surrounds himself with bums because he’s a bum, simple as that.
