I don't miss the old days at all in many respects..

I just miss being younger if less informed. Technology has made so many aspects quite a bit easier. The only downside to technology is with hackers and scamming.

a lot had to change in order to support the current environment. At one time trades were settled and cleared individually and the street communicated with paper. There were huge staffs dedicated to fixing differences. Automation, dematerialization (getting rid of stock certificates), centralized clearing and depositories all contributed to driving down the costs of a trade. Trade rooms used to be the noisiest places but are now relatively silent as the vast bulk of transactions are completed in the silent confines of a computer.

I recall the first quote machine. You entered a symbol and got a single quote. Overtime, news and multiple quotes were added. In the really old days you had to call a trading floor for quotes or watch the ticker.

If you build it they will come...
