Dog training is an art. Not a science.

Really not much different to bring up kids. Recognize their strong points and foster them.

Not really important why it works but immensely important that it does work..

I don't like to feed my dogs people food. I never liked them sitting around the table begging for food.

People food ... Neither do I but like with any rule, there can be exceptions. Some table scraps can be canine recycled; i.e. slightly seasoned meat of fish. I always wash it off before mixing it into the dog food..

As for dinner table begging ... We really only have a few “hammered in stone” house rules:

“You” are not welcome anywhere close to the dinner table, on our furniture and our bedroom.

I see it as a form of mutual respect. I don’t invade your space. Don’t invade mine.
