I was looking for a better one to show how animal power was quickly replaced by mechanical power.

It was a classic logistical curve - sigmoid - there is a gradual start - an exponential phase and then a maturation leveling out. Every technology goes through that... we have that in computers, rocket motors and hopefully (soon) fossil fuel consumption. At the end of the mature phase, it often runs in reverse. Here I created my own curves which are better. Replacement technologies stack ... if the vertical axis is number in use - it is often the exponential multiplication of the transfer function (2nd chart).
