Hitachi may suspend semiconductor plants by 8-14 days between Feb-March

TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Hitachi Ltd said it is studying plans to suspend
operations of its eight domestic semiconductor plants by 4-7 days in
February, marking the first suspension in six years.
Hitachi said it may also suspend semiconductor production lines at the
eight domestic plants by further 4-7 days in March, if the proposal is
approved by its labour union.
The move is aimed at adjusting output of 16M DRAM and SRAM chips in line
with the prolonged price decline which lasted until the middle of the last
week, a Hitachi official said.
Hitachi said that with the planned cutbacks of the 16M DRAM chip
production, its monthly output will fall to around 8.0 mln units a month by
the end of March against initial plans to produce 9.0 mln 16M DRAM chips a
month.
