It doesn't matter because the store in question is no longer in business after refusing to serve a customer simply because the owner was a bigot. If you are a Libertarian then you object to bigotry and you don't object to people choosing unions that fit them, not you. It is where we managed to get to when TimF and I had the same discussion. Deciding your business will not serve a customer because of some aspect of the customer that you dislike or disagree with is bigotry, no different than hanging up a sign that says "No dogs or Chinese". If your personal beliefs interfere with serving customers then close your business because what you cannot do is decide which customers will be served based on your personal bigotry. You can call bullshit all you want, what you cannot do is open a public storefront store to serve people you like and refuse service to others, that is called a private club. Here is the official position of the Libertarian Party on gay rights -- Section 1.3 "Personal Relationships": Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships. The Libertarian Party also has a plank on bigots -- 3.5 Rights and Discrimination Libertarians embrace the concept that all people are born with certain inherent rights. We reject the idea that a natural right can ever impose an obligation upon others to fulfill that “right.” We condemn bigotry as irrational and repugnant. Government should neither deny nor abridge any individual’s human right based upon sex, wealth, ethnicity, creed, age, national origin, personal habits, political preference, or sexual orientation. Members of private organizations retain their rights to set whatever standards of association they deem appropriate, and individuals are free to respond with ostracism, boycotts, and other free market solutions. The Libertarian Party has a clear message to give -- L ibertarian National Committee Executive Director Wes Benedict issued the following statement: The Libertarian Party condemns bigotry as irrational and repugnant, and offers its condolences to the family of the woman killed in Charlottesville, Va. There is no room for racists and bigots in the Libertarian Party. If there are white nationalists who — inappropriately — are members of the Libertarian Party, I ask them to submit their resignations today. We don’t want them to associate with the Libertarian Party, and we don’t want their money. I’m not expecting many resignations, because our membership already knows this well. Now I expect that for many who actually follow Libertarian reasoning and accept Libertarian principles this will be evident. I am not sure where you stand on race but it is pretty clear that you are not a Libertarian based upon acceptance of others to live lifestyles that suit them. Offending the religious belief of the business owner doesn't factor in any reasonable stance anywhere at any time, as the court pointed out.
