Here's what Bookshelf basics says for ad hominem:

ad hominem (h•m'e-nŠm', -nem) adjective
Appealing to personal considerations rather than to logic or reason: Debaters should avoid ad hominem arguments that question their opponents' motives.

(oops So, maybe I'm in violation of Bill's new copyright law here, them's the breaks.)

Like, you know, when anybody who questions the correctness and inevitability of the triumph of Microsoft is a Microsoft hater, a leftist, a liberal, a commie, a cry-baby wannabe, is blowing hot air, all wind and no sail, or just plain makes no sense. I used to have a bigger collection of these, but I forget.

Now, of course, I use Libertarian/Objectivist a lot these days, but I try to restrict that to arguments that to my knowledge are associated with those particular philosophies. Everybody's got a right to their viewpoint, but I'd appreciate it if somebody would explain what standing these particular philosphical views have legally. Who knows?

Cheers, Dan.
