<<In Dataquest's access concentrator report published Nov. 20, 1997, the San Jose-based industry research firm listed 3Com with 43.8 percent of end-user revenue market share compared to Ascend's 28.5 percent and Cisco's 15.5 percent.>>

yes, old news, imo, the definition of this research "end-user revenue" includes low-end such as analog modem and conflicts with the "access concentrator" usage

Hex: Here is what I think: (I'm serious, I know a little about PR); some of the COMS dudes who were not in the zone were prairie dogging in the Nerve Center last week when one of 'em noticed Gary's info on the Scottsdale conference on the ASND thread. A genius killer shirt, (probably an NCG), heard the noise and mentioned it to one of the big shirts who got worried about potential wombat skeet and called in the internal marketing puke for a handle. The marketing puke called in the PR shirt, and he, (being short on RAM), decided to re-release old data to the general public because somebody at COMS can see Ascend's curry, and that the boys over at ASND were really in the zone and might have "The Way", and he didn't have time to get a Facer out before Tuesday afternoon, when some of the COMS shareholders might have to call the Real Big Shirts at COMS for some hand holding. <<Here is a blurb that I find disturbing. Is this still valid for being published in Nov? Things must have changed since now.>>

I just checked in and am 30+ posts back, so maybe this has been answered, but I will answer anyway.

I view these Q3 numbers as purely an aberration due to ASND's 56K and TNT problems this Summer. One quarter does not a trend make (try that in German). Let's see what the numbers are in Q4 and Q1 they should show ASND bouncing back.

COMS is blowing it's horn on this IMO, because there is not too much else positive out there now for them at the moment with their inventory and Asia problems.
