Hello everyone.

I am a faculty physician at a university affiliated hospital in New York City and I also serve as a biotech consultant to several well known investment firms.
Over the next few days and perhaps weeks (if people find this useful and I have the time to do so), I hope to bring some clarity to the issues raised on this board regarding Zonagen (ZONA) and their product Vasomax. If you want vapid levity, don't bother reading my posts. If you want meaningful data and analysis, you will find it here.
I don't expect the short sellers to be very happy with the data I will present, but neither am I trying to advocate for those with a long position. I will simply try to provide information and resources
with which you can make your own informed decisions. I do not have any affiliation with ZONA, although after proper due diligence I presently hold a long position in the company.

Please note that I am not intending to give investment advice; the viewpoints expressed here are my own and reflect my due diligence (which is not invulnerable to error); I may change my viewpoint without notice; and that I hate having to write legal stuff like this.

Regarding due diligence: I have read the US method patent (#5,565,466) owned by Zonagen, reviewed the medline database of medical literature regarding phentolamine and its role in male erectile dysfunction from 1966 to the present, examined the Vasomax development paper recently released by ZONA; and have spoken to investor relations at both Schering Plough (SGP) and ZONA. I have also been to Manuel Asensio's web site and reviewed his ZONA reports of January 9, 13, and 15, 1998; and November 18 and 26, 1997. I also consulted several urology texts and spoke to urologists regarding these matters.

I will try to post topics one at a time. So, let's get started.

First, can oral phentolamine really produce erections?

Yes. In the well respected medical journal "The annals of internal medicine"(author--Gwinup;July 15,1988,pp162-163), 11 of 16 patients (including 3 in the placebo group) were able to achieve erection with vaginal penetration after ingesting 50mg of generic oral phentolamine. Six years later, Dr. Adrian Zorgniotti repeated this study and again found that orally ingested phentolamine allowed successful intercourse in 36 of 85 (42.3%) of the patients he tested.
There was one little problem however.

Intercourse took place 1.5 Hours! after taking the oral phentolamine. (This would generally not be considered very practical).

So, Dr. Zorgniotti went back to the drawing board. Could he get this stuff to work faster and therefore be more useful?

Yep. And he got a US patent (#5,565,466) for doing so. It is now owned by ZONA and in my opinion is central to ZONA's patent protected competative advantage.

For more information on this patent and further commentary on ZONA, please go to my next post.
