Here is the modern difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to the KKK: Robert Byrd, a Democrat US Senator served for 51 years in the senate and house, was elevated to senate majority leader and praised as hero when he died in 2010. While David Duke didn't get a single endorsment from a single Republican, was harrased and shunned by his party, and only managed to serve one term after he got elected in 88. Democrats praise their KKK members. Republicans excoriate them.
