Is it really racial diversity that leads to cultural diversity? Or is it geographic diversity?

It's complicated.

All I'll say is that even the notion that we are all just one "human race" is very postmodern. It's something that most cultures have yet to adopt.

It's also something that I'm not really sure most cultures should adopt. John Lennon's "Imagine" makes for a wonderful pipe dream, but I think it can be taken too far.
