> I wonder whether lives in 3rd world countries
mean as much as lives in 1st world country. If thousands of people
die in India, China, Iran because of famine, earthquake, or some other
natural diasters, it hardly made any blips in our news headlines. If
the same thing happens in US, Germany, Britain, it would be like the
top story of the year.

Funny you should mention this! Recent case and point the news in Guatemala and the attacks made by some Guatemalian burglers/thieves on about 20 American students. Certainly the incident was horrible as the students were rubbed and 5 were raped. This happened yesterday and I have been hearing about it every hour on CNN, CBS newsline, and other forms of media. The Guatemala's ambassador to the US, along with other Guatemalian officials even went to meet in person with the students and to apologize for the incident that took place in that country (the Guatemalian ambassador actually flew all the way from the US to Guatemala). The news and how horrific the incident has been, is spread like a muchroom all over the planet earth by media.

And yet several times a week ambush of hundreds and thousands of families in little villages in Algeria where people are literally cut in pieces, burned and slathered regardless of age, and sex goes un-noticed, and no one even offers a hand to for example the guy whose 3 children's throat were cut in front of his eyes, or to the 12 year old girl whose entire family were slathered in front of her eyes, or.... I only wished if media does not pay attention to them, at least they could give a phone number, or some contact information or something so if the few in the public who saw or heard of their little coverage of such crimes against humanity could offer their helps by themselves. But not even that... It is truly sad....
