Years ago I was running a boat up the inside passage to Alaska. We stopped for fuel at a Canadian port.

When I was paying I had a long and friendly chat session with the proprietor. At the end I paid with U.S. currency and the friendliness turned to ice. I bought some little thing and was charged an outrageous price, at a time when the Canadian dollar was at a deep discount.
