Howard,
I wouldn't expect BRKS to be the only semi eqpmt company to sell below book value. Sooner or later the old number (6.46) will be purged from the various data bases and replaced with either $12.35 or $14+ depending upon preciseley when the snapshot is taken.

BRKS got oversold on the last preannouncement. I wouldn't count on any Tuesday morning selloff lasting for a long time. The market makers will be very happy to oblige any Sell Market Orders, I'm sure. But once they've built their inventory, I'd expect the price to go back up same day.

JMHO,
Ian.

<<Where would you go long on BRKS, or would you?>>

I'm not taking true positions right now. I'm convinced the sector is going to move sideways for a while and I'm trying to make some money on technical trades, so I keep the trading ranges of about 20 issues. I short the ones at the top of their range and buy the ones at the bottom, albeit with a tendency to short the weaker ones and buy the strong ones. However, most of the really weak ones can't be shorted.

Right now I wouldn't touch Brooks long. I'll wait until it establishes a technical range and let it bounce once. I'm willing to take a chance with EGLS -- i.e. not waiting to see if it hits a new bottom -- because I'd be willing to hold it long to make a good profit. You know good and well that, absent some catastrophe, it will be in the 30's within 18 months, and will probably show some legs a lot earlier.

Don't get down on short-term trading. I can hold 'em with the best. I rode Asyst all the way down from 30 to 16 (pre-split), averaging down. Then I got to ride it up! :) It just looks to be dead money for a while. Plus, short term trading is HARD WORK!

Off-Topic: Here's a company (AWRE) I DO have a position in. There's a pretty strong rumor of an announcement from the industry movers this week. On the downside, Lucent announced a competitive product today. But it really looks like AWRE could be the Hayes Modem of the next decade:
