I seem to recall that Altera has warned a couple of times since last summer about slower than expected orders. Given that they are one of Xilinx's biggest competitors, and have taken a large chunk of business away from them, IMO there is more downside potential than upside suprise... I took a chance on mchp that poor earnings were built into the price, and got hammered for it. It seems in this nervous market it is better to be in cash when earnings are reported.
