Steve,

the MXi is going to be targeted at machines that may be too powerful to fall into the sub $500 category.. if based on performance alone...

I know well how MXi would perform based on its specifications and what I understand on M2. There is nothing to be called too powerful or too cheap if NSM wants to expand the market to 800 million units level. The only way to get more is to give more.

With the cost of ~$40, I would love to see MXi go after sub-$500 PC market and grow the information device market. Let Intel have the server market, we like to have the majority of 10 folds of the current PC market.

Steve,

All indications are that the MXi has the advantages of the top of the line cpus and then some.

No, I don't agree with you. M3 will be the real top end processor and it is on the way. MXi is the chip to make NSM the new KING.

Steve,

Did I astonish you with the idea of MXi going after sub-$500 PC market?

With the cost of $30~$40 on .25u process, NSM could easily offer MXi for the sub-$500 PC with 55%+ margin. Although, 55% margin might not sound too great comparing to 80% margin of Intel on PII, NSM has vast, or almost unlimited, wafer capacities to sell five folds processors than Intel. The volume will make up the margin difference. Only the money put in the pocket would count. Sound potential sometime is just not enough.

MXi will make National-Semi the new processor King if NS could sell 400 millions of it. It is the time to give our Cyrix team the glory they deserve.

Steve, SDRAM is fast but not 100% reliable. There is no special reason to clock the GXm at a multiple of 10ns. It is safer to clock at 12ns or 15ns and offer CPU speeds of 233/266/300MHz with extra waits than to clock at 200MHz and expect SDRAM to operate at 100MHz.

IMHO, talk about 133MHz memory is just talk. If the memmakers can't work the bugs out at 10ms SDRAM then 8ms is only a dream. Catch the reality when it happens but don't hold your breath!
