i think Trump and Kim both knew that the process would take time. Neither one of them lost face, which is vital. The North Koreans have no hope of surviving a militarily confrontation -- and OTOH they are looking at a prospect of a very bright future (which Trump never forgets to point out, like in the tweet below). Thats a powerful combination of pressure and incentives. Kim will need assurances with regard to his own future and that of his leadership. It looks like a deal is in the works.

For Trump the challenge will be how to translate this into a success in Iran. Their FM Zarif was retired... hopefully this will help open talks. Maybe it's even an overture of some sort... but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
