si doesn't have to be concerned about acountability.. when i first joined here it was free.. it went to $75{well worth it back then} and if it is $200 it is to keep serious investors here.. and cover costs..

anything worth anything is worth paying for..
yahoo still sucks their gui is lame and if you want to avoid hype.. ignore it and find a group of people to bookmark and hang out with.. there are members here who are great pluses.. you can do a peoplemark here.. i don't know about yahoo.. read it once or twice and left it alone.. too much bs.. may as well be a kiddie chat room.
Si may be geting a little outdated.. but it is up to you to know/learn how to deal with it.. if you paid $200 ask for a refund and stop posting.. i am sure they will gladly refund your dough..

Your assumptions and generalizations are just that.

Gosh, is SI really up to $200? I wish I had signed up for about 500 memeberships when I joined, back in the ancient days when lifetime memberships were free.

OT

I think it's just the opposite -- if you're branded a hyper/promoter on SI, people will quickly figure it out, and one way or another you'll get kicked off SI (or at least thrown off by the other members). So then you have to cough up another membership fee. I know many of us spend $200 a week in commissions, but that doesn't mean we throw money around foolishly. I believe on SI we have a strong incentive to keep our names (or handles) squeaky clean.

Not that everyone's is . . . .

Not even a good argument.
Yahoo is Usenet all over again. Anarchy at it's best.
SI does't need members...they can afford to charge. It is quite a different story on the Yahoo boards. I have seen more cross-posted hype trash from YAHOO ending up on SI than said trash ORIGINATING from SI. And yes, there is accountability. I have seen many a bonehead get the boot for reasons ranging from hype, abuse, personal gain. At $200/pop that adds up for most on a repeated basis.
